How I Got Here...

Everyone's journey into make up is totally different but when I was starting out I always sought advice on courses and work experience so here's what I know...

I began by achieving my NVQ in Hairdressing with Toni & Guy. This turned out to be SO helpful when I continued with my training in make up because I could do highlights & haircuts for friends to earn some cash. I then went on to study Hair & Make up for Performance at the London College of Fashion, it was here I met fellow make up artist Scarlett Burton who has gone on to work with musicians such Foxes and Iggy Azalea. After gaining my diploma I began emailing every agency and make up artist I admired asking for work experience. Fortunately I had a friend in common with the extraordinary Georgina Graham and she welcomed me into her team.  I began assisting Georgina and her 1st assistant Kate Lindsey on shoots and London Fashion Week shows. During this time I learnt so much about editorial, advertising and TV make up.

Even though I would encourage everyone to do a course to learn the basics, assisting is where you really witness the creativity and skill required to become a successful make up artist. Not only that, it is also a great way to meet other assistants from stylists to photographers who are also looking to build their portfolios. I very quickly developed a loyal team to do test shoots with and who would recommend me to their clients. With growing confidence in my abilities I used all the contacts I had made to turn my dream job into a reality, you have to be so pro-active at every stage of this career. I signed with my first agency S management and continued to build my client base, working for publications such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour and Grazia. I am now represented by Frank Agency alongside artists such as Caroline Barnes who I have admired for years. I consider myself so lucky that I LOVE going to work... every day is different, working with new teams who inspire me to continue developing my style. I don't think I will ever stop learning!
